7 common mistakes travelers should not make
It is unlikely that someone will refuse the opportunity to travel as often as possible, for example, not only to get out 1-2 times a year to the nearest sea, but also spend weekends in other countries. That’s just in pursuit of their dreams, some begin to bring the planning of expenses on a trip to absurdity and at the exit they not only overpay several times more, but also waste their time, energy and nerves. We have made several points, which should not be economized on in any case. Unless, of course, you want your vacation to be ruined.
Search for cheap flights
On the one hand, inexpensive tickets are an opportunity to travel more often and not to save in advance for a treasured trip. But on the other hand, low-cost airlines usually have attractive prices, who have to save on almost everything: starting from the airports themselves and ending with food, or rather, its absence. Be prepared for what you may be asked to pay extra for registration, for choosing a seat, for a bag (if it does not fit into the dimensions of your hand luggage or there will be several), for drinks and other products on board. And if you summarize all these expenses, you will see that the price of the flight has increased several times and for this amount you could buy a completely standard ticket with a standard set of services.
Cancellation of additional baggage
If you are saving on airfare, be prepared for the fact that usually cheap options are baggage-free tariffs, which provide only the ability to carry cabin luggage weighing up to 10 kg. It’s okay, you can travel with one backpack. But in case you suddenly decide to buy souvenirs for relatives and friends, or suddenly your favorite boutique will arrange a grand sale and you will not be able to miss this event, then for each additional bag or suitcase you will have to give a tidy sum. In addition, some low-cost airlines do not allow you to bring packages from Duty Free for free, despite the fact that often the prices at airport stores are an order of magnitude higher than at city outlets, then there can be no saving at all. If you add up all these expenses, it turns out that a “cheap” ticket is suitable only for those who are used to traveling light and certainly are not tempted to bring local delicacies, clothes or souvenirs to their homeland.
Rejection of health insurance
“Nothing will happen to me in a couple of days!”, Some travelers argue, intentionally refusing travel insurance. And so it really can happen that your rest will take place in a relaxed rhythm and you definitely will not need the help of a doctor. But what to do if suddenly some kind of abnormal situation has occurred and your health is in danger? Alas, often if you suddenly fall ill on vacation or get injured, you will have to contact local medical institutions and pay the full amount of treatment from your own pocket. We will say right away that prices are usually very expensive there: for example, a regular examination will cost you several hundred, a visit to the dentist can reach up to a thousand, and hospitalization will even rise to several thousand (euro or dollars). Therefore, do not ignore the services of an insurance company when planning a trip, because in which case, you can pay for all expenses for treatment under insurance, find a suitable doctor and a good medical institution.
Travel by car
“I will have the most budgetary and brightest trip to Europe,” our friend proudly told of his plans. Of course, we understood that saving is so-so, because even if we consider the fact that it’s quite possible to save money on hotels (some people feel quite comfortable in a car), we should not forget about high gas prices in European countries, expensive car insurance, toll roads and parking lots, plus other expenses, for example, a fine for improper parking, an unfastened seat belt, entry to the historic center and more. In addition, you should not console yourself with the hope that you can “save on food”, because by law you can’t import foodstuffs into European countries, so your supplies can be removed at customs. As a result, when we put all this together and announced the approximate amount to our friend, his enthusiasm diminished. Of course, it all depends on the country, the number of passengers and the type of car. However, in any case, it’s worth it to be prepared for the fact that road travel is not so cheap and is suitable only if you are ready for additional expenses and feel confident behind the wheel.
Choosing a Cheap Hotel
This does not mean, of course, that you need to look at extremely expensive hotels, but many, in an attempt to save money, manage to choose such bad options that you then have to solve the problem on the spot, change the hotel or pay extra for other, more comfortable apartments. In addition, some naively believe that since breakfast is already included in the room rate, you can safely cross out this expense item, but it wasn’t there.
