India independent travel to Kerala
We began to choose where to go. I re-read the entire Wikipedia, compared it with the reviews and chose Kerala. This is the most peaceful state in South India, there is practically no crime there and tourists are not fooled much, and most importantly – there is amazing nature there. Direct flights, though not provided, but generally fly for a long time, but this is not the main thing.
When choosing a hotel, I, of course, was taken aback, there are so many of them that my eyes are already scattered. I really wanted a separate bungalow or just a house, like in the movies. And we found one – ISIS Ayurveda Retreat. Four stars, a private terrace, a cool pool, but most importantly, the hotel is located on a steep cliff overlooking the sea. It is completely new and Europeans keep it, so everything is very civilian and the beach is 10 minutes walk.
I liked the house, it does not reach four stars, but there is everything you need: a comfortable large bed, a TV, a bathtub, soft sunbeds on your own terrace, well, as it should be. On site you can soak in the jacuzzi, take spa treatments and definitely enjoy Ayurvedic treatments.
We were very lucky, not all hotels have their Ayurvedic centers, usually people specially go to procedures, living in ordinary hotels.
Ayurvedic medicine is a complex science. Initially, the doctor interviewed us, then prescribed each one a separate diet, various procedures and yoga (for some reason, only to me). My husband immediately “scored” on a diet, didn’t even pretend to yoga, but he immediately liked the idea of massage.
Before starting the procedure, it is necessary to take a shower with a special scrub – these are finely ground cereals, which I do not know. Then begins bliss. Skilled masseuses begin to rub aromatic oils into all parts of the body, even into the hair and arms and legs, it seems that they even massage internal organs.
I was never oiled, it even seemed to me that at some point I would slip off the couch. The next stage of bliss is a steam room in a wooden steam capsule, after which again a shower with cereals. This therapy impressed me very much, by the end of the rest, I probably had already become a solid aromatic oil myself. But the husband went again three times and that’s all, said that everything is too fragrant and oily, he doesn’t like it
I won’t talk much about food – not Egypt, of course. They serve everything on banana leaves, a lot of vegetables and seafood, sometimes meat. Juices, cocktails, drinks are all very tasty and satisfying. There are not many sweets, but we are not sweet tooths, so we are fine. The cuisine is interwoven: local, European, Asian. In general, we were not hungry.
The only thing was that they drank only bottled water, and they also washed it with it. Hands were constantly wiped with wet wipes, in general, they read about bacteria for good reason.
I am very neutral towards the sea. I would just admire them, well, in extreme cases, wet my feet, so I was more attracted to the pool or jacuzzi. And here is the husband, only for his sake he rode and there was a bummer. You can’t swim in it, no, of course, but it is extremely dangerous. There are no breakwaters, waves are big, and all kinds of fish swim in the water, in the sense of fish. Therefore, he was forced to confine himself to a gentle swim and digging into the sand. But the beach is clean, you can sunbathe, you can splash around the shore, you can do surfing, water skiing, diving, which he tried to do. Cool of course, but not for everybody. Although the surfers said that the waves here are some special and for the sake of them they come.
The very first evening we went to a disco in Trivandrum, I’ll say there are not many places like that, entertainment and nightlife are present, but they are not very popular. The disco is so-so, although there are many Russian songs, but I liked the performances of the actors, who in the intervals showed some pantomimes in awesome costumes.
We went to Trivandrum and in the afternoon – for shopping. Potis is simply not a real place. I made so many purchases: sarees, carved dishes, several jewelry made from natural stones, in general, a lot of things, even bought fabric, by the way, with our money only 20 rubles per meter. The husband also bought souvenirs – yes there is something to choose from.
I will separately tell about excursions. The hotel guide drove us to them, he speaks Russian reasonably well, so it was terribly interesting. We traveled to many places and the famous reserve, which is considered the best zoo in India, and sailed to Cape Kanyakumari, and went to the temple of Shiva. Shiva’s temple simply struck us, we didn’t see such beauty at all, mother-of-pearl figures, gilded figurines are generally super. But the Golden Hills tea plantations did not inspire us at all, the air there is mountainous, clean, and nothing more. Fishsuk – the fish market – this place shocked me, but it’s an amateur, I just don’t like the fish smell, and when the fish is lying around too, but we bought king prawns.
I can talk a lot more about this trip, but the main thing I want to finish my story with is a general impression of India.
