Mandrem with the beach of the same name is located in North Goa, between Ashvem and Arambol, with whom he shares a long sand spit.
The village, like its neighbors, does not have a well-developed infrastructure, so backpackers, tourists with a modest budget, who want to rent a house cheaply, and lovers to be alone with themselves and their thoughts come here.
HOW TO GET THERE?
At the airport in Dabolim, go to the taxi desk located at the entrance to the building and hire a car. The trip is paid in advance by the clerk. The rate is approximately 1,400 rupees. The distance to the destination point is about 57 km.
From the airport to the village can also be reached by bus, making several transfers. You need to be very careful, as the buses do not have numbers, and the inscriptions are often not duplicated in English. This method is only suitable for experienced travelers who know the route exactly.
Another way is to get to Morjim station by train, and cover the remaining distance (about 20 km) by regular bus or taxi.
POSITION OPTIONS IN MANDREMA
Several accommodation options are available. Bungalow is the most budget. Such a home, built from improvised materials, will appeal to very unassuming travelers.
A hotel room can be rented upon arrival or reserved in advance through a specialized service on the Internet. Hotels lined the coastline about 100 meters from the beach.
Guesthouses are very popular. The reason is not only an affordable price, but also the proximity to a variety of cafes.
Those who are accustomed to comfort should pay attention to houses and villas. The price depends on the season, the remoteness of the building from the sea, equipped with its home appliances, furniture and other attributes of comfort. On average, the cost varies from 15,000 to 25,000 rupees per month if a house is rented for the whole season from November to March.
If you have arrived for just a couple of weeks, there is no point in looking for a separate accommodation. You will spend more time searching for it than on water-beach procedures and acquaintance with the local colorful culture.
WHEN IS IT BETTER TO RENT A HOUSING?
The beginning of the holiday season, which occurs at the end of October or the beginning of November, is best suited for rent. At this time, North Goa begins to transform after the rainy season. Homeowners tidy up apartments, build new infrastructure points, clean the beach, reopen shops and benches.
In the high season (second half of December – early January), prices increase significantly, and the number of available rooms is reduced.
SHANTI SHANTI OR DO NOT HURRY
If you have made a firm decision to settle in Mandrem Beach, do not rush to rent the first housing you find. First, stay for a couple of days at the guesthouse. A decent option with a 2 double bed and a hot shower will cost 400 rupees. Start your quest calmly. You should not resort to the services of local taxi drivers, guides, and even compatriots; their services will certainly affect the cost of rent.
Communicate only directly with the landlord. If you like the house, you do not need to show your admiration violently, otherwise the rental price will increase significantly. Mandatory stipulate the following points:
Gas bottle. (It should be complete and change for free).
Water. It happens only cold, heats up with the help of electric appliances, solar panels or is it a tank on the roof).
Fans and air conditioners. (Must be working. Do not be too lazy to check the technique).
Price. Bargaining is appropriate. Feel free to quote your price to find a compromise with the landlord somewhere in the middle between his desires and your financial capabilities.
If everything suits you, leave a symbolic deposit. 1500 – 2000 rupees will be enough.
If you find broken furniture, broken plumbing, broken glass and other annoying troubles, do not give the full amount of the rental until the owner fixes it.
Video from Mandrem Beach:
Mandrem Beach is a snow-white sandy strip 2 km long. It is crossed by shallow rivulets, due to which the illusion is created that the coastline consists of many islands. They are connected by bridges that fit perfectly into the exotic landscape. It is hardly possible to find another such picturesque beach in North Goa, which is washed by fresh and salt water at the same time.
There are no cultural and nightlife in the village. Entertainment is meditation and admiring the surrounding expanses. To shake yourself, you need to go to Mapusa, Arambol or other resorts located south of Morjim.
Attractions are represented by a couple of temples, a huge banyan tree and the ruins of a shrimp factory.
Shops are only the most necessary. They sell fruits, vegetables, drinks, food. There is a pharmacy and a currency exchange.
Restaurants and cafes serve tasty and cheap dishes of local and international cuisine. Oasis, Mango Tree, Beer Garden, End of the World, Cafe Nu, The Well are very popular among tourists.
